The DIADEM PEPR training programme is expanding to include a new course dedicated to accelerated materials discovery. The first edition of the ‘Introduction to Accelerated Materials Discovery’ course will take place in December 2026, as part of the DIADEM training programme and in partnership with the IMPACT Chair at INSTN.
At a time when artificial intelligence is radically transforming materials science, this course offers an in-depth exploration of the most innovative methodological approaches. From the design of materials through to the end of their life cycle, including the optimisation of manufacturing processes, AI now enables the entire life cycle to be covered. Participants will learn, in particular, how to combine autonomous laboratories, data science and acceleration platforms to address contemporary scientific and industrial challenges.
Target audience
The course is aimed at PhD students, postdoctoral researchers and materials scientists wishing to incorporate AI into their research practices.
Participants will learn to:
- Identify examples of process optimisation using AI from a circular economy perspective;
- Analyse experimental data using artificial intelligence tools;
- Implement AI strategies for the research and design of new materials.
Contenu et points forts
The programme alternates between lectures, case studies and practical sessions:
- A national and international overview of integrated approaches to accelerating discovery;
- Implementation of acceleration platforms and the democratisation of digital tools;
- Analysis of data from major research infrastructures;
- AI and upcycling;
- Applications in extreme environments;
- Practical sessions focused on optimising the design of complex materials and processes;
- Visit to an acceleration platform.
Participants will have access to emerging process platforms and practical scenarios in AI-assisted design.
Please note: the IMPACT Chair will cover PhD students’ tuition fees, upon request and subject to availability.
Applications (CV and cover letter) should be sent to : servane.coste@cea.fr.
This training programme is fully aligned with the objectives of the PEPR DIADEM initiative, which aims to develop and disseminate expertise in accelerated materials discovery, thereby supporting faster, more sustainable and more integrated research.
