A look back at the CAICOR workshop
Publié le
Following the annual European corrosion conference, EUROCORR 2026, the first edition of the CAICOR (Contribution of AI to COrrosion Research) workshop, which focused on the impact of artificial intelligence on corrosion research, brought together approximately 50 participants in Dublin, Ireland.
Organized by the CEA’s Corrosion Division (DRMP/S2CM) as part of the A-DREAM targeted project under the PEPR DIADEM program and sponsored by DIADEM, this first-of-its-kind workshop was a great success. The workshop began with an introduction by F. Balbaud on the event’s objectives, followed by a keynote presentation by Mikhail Zheludkevich on the role of AI in the field of corrosion inhibitors. A session dedicated to corrosion sensors and inhibitors then took place, and the workshop concluded with a discussion on high-temperature corrosion. This final session included a presentation by R. Haddad on his work as part of the A-DREAM project, as well as a discussion moderated by F. Balbaud on ways to build an AI community in the field of corrosion, including proposals for training, support, and collaboration. Among the ideas proposed, EFC Working Party 8 (Data Management) expressed interest in leading this community; a CAICOR summer school could be established; and webinars could be organized to bring together and support this emerging community. Feedback from participants was particularly positive.
