AI for New Materials: The PEPR DIADEM project participates in the ANRT workshop
Publié le
On Wednesday, September 30, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., the ANRT (National Association for Research and Technology) hosted a workshop at France Chimie focused on artificial intelligence for new materials. In a context marked by challenges related to sovereignty, sustainability, and security, as well as by changes in the regulatory framework, AI is a key driver for the design and development of new materials.
This first workshop provided an opportunity to present several use cases drawn from scientific and industrial contexts and to share insights on the potential, limitations, and challenges of these approaches: evolving research and characterization methods, data structuring and analysis, and the integration of human expertise with AI models.

Several participants in the PEPR DIADEM program were among the speakers
The PEPR DIADEM was well represented at this workshop, with several presentations:
- Mario Maglione, former co-director of the PEPR DIADEM, spoke on “A Broad Spectrum of Materials, Processes, and Applications.”
- Fanny Balbaud, department head at the CEA Institute of Applied Sciences and Simulation for Low-Carbon Energy (ISAS) and a member of the PEPR DIADEM, presented research focused on the development of corrosion-resistant materials and coatings for extreme environments, with an application to molten salts.
- Sébastien Allain, a professor at the University of Lorraine, head of the “Materials Science, Engineering, and Metallurgy” department at the Jean Lamour Institute in Nancy, and a member of the PEPR DIADEM, presented a use case involving the recycling of scrap metal while maintaining consistent quality in the final product.
Through these various presentations, the workshop highlighted the diversity of AI applications in the field of materials and the importance of combining data, modeling, and scientific expertise to support transformations in research and industry.
